In June 1998, Ivor, Trevers and Mark Walklett, Chris Meek (famous ginetta driver in the 60’s and70’s) and Len Newton from Cosworth set off for Tokyo, Japan to launch the G4R revived from the 60’s when it sent sparks flying and still does in the 21st century.
The first G4R was powered by a Ford Zetec engine tuned by the Walkletts and another tuned by Cosworth.
On the 9th June 1998, prior to the launch, we took part in the ‘Ginetta Cup’ one make race series at Ebisu circuit, which is about 180 miles north of Tokyo. Mark Walklett was invited as a guest driver and won against stiff opposition from the quick G12 and G4 drivers. The social side of the visit was very enjoyable, as it always is when visiting our fellow competitors in Japan.
